I really am trying hard. Like once in a blue moon hard (to update this blog). This blog is dying! Keep it alive people!

Anyway, I came across this beautiful quote while watching J-drama! (Iryu, Team Medical Dragon) Please go crunchy it! (www.crunchyroll.com)

He (or rather the script writers) couldn’t have put it any better. Although “Iryu Team Medical Dragon” is about doctors and surviving in the political minefields of medical sector Japan, its chock full of teamwork and really shows you how “[teamwork] is really like multiplication.”

The explanation really hits hard, “no matter how many big numbers you’ve got, all you need is one zero to bring the final equation to zero.” If everyone doesn’t share the same ideals and level of commitment to the team. If not everyone understands that a team is not about relying on others and not putting in 100% or more, then the whole team, no matter how many great players you’ve got on your side, this team is nothing.

HEY RC GIRLS! MERRY CHRISTMAS!

reading carrie's post made me a little emo. new girls, if you don't know me, i'm lavinia. i'm the girl who needed a stool to scoop, the one who had to be incharge of rc for a little while and took it out on the rest when the workload took a toil on me, the one who's worked in every outlet before and been with B&J's for one and a half years. if you haven't gotten the point yet, i regard myself highly when it comes to ice cream, especially rc.

let me tell you a little something about us. we're the ones who sing iris OUT LOUD and not care about what others think. we're the one who can get NINE scoopies out for mambo, sing every sing like we know it and steal kisses from each other. simply because we know how it feels to be just fun with each other. FUN. that's what we're about. fun with responsiblities. :) so little loons out there, gambatte man! it's all about teamwork.

I don't know how many new girls at RC have the right spark, the right attitude to last as a scoopie. So far I've only seen 1 new girl, and I think she has the potential to enjoy work and yet take pride in her work, be it serving customers or cleaning up the store. Since I've only seen 1 new girl, I don't think I'd know for sure, since I haven't experienced the other girls firsthand, what they're really like and what their working attitudes are like. But what I heard from the other older scoopies about them isn't pleasant and it doesn't matter if I take it to heart and believe them or not. Its just not working out if the talks been travelling round.

Truth be told, if theres something wrong, theres just something not working right. Its not about alliances of the old scoopies against the new girls, its about chemistry. Every girl in store will be able to bond with the other girls. Many batches of RC girls have done so! But why not now? Why are the girls so apprehensive about working with some girls? Whats this now? Politics? We've never had that, and we should STAMP it out by untying the knots now or at least as soon as possible!

I haven't been working as often as I like to, but I did work a lot once, and I understand what its like to get burnt out, but it's never an excuse to be entirely lazy or unhelpful and I've worked long enough to know that it IS possible to work really hard and yet love every single minute of it. Time flies and its just a joy to be working together! Its all about caring for every girl in store! Its about understanding their working patterns and finding out what "chore" isn't a chore for you! But mainly its still about working together as a team! So cliched, so simple and yet why is it forgotten!

Its all about team team team team team team team team family family family family family and everyone being happy, having fun working hard, thats the Ben and Jerry's spirit, girls, thats the RC girls spirit!

And for the new girls who haven't experienced it yet, do you know what you're missing out on? (That's rhetorical. Say no.)

You're missing out on a fantastic feeling. Its wonderful when the gears all click and theres no grievances because everyone feels respected, everyone feels helpful and the best part is everyone feels happy with each other! Its no rocket science. Its pretty simple!

Its all the little things that make work a breeze and a blast! Its doing silly things like screaming co-ordinated "Hi welcome"s and doing silly dance moves (that are just retarded!) or saying, "Hey ONE MILKSHAKE" and have someone whos standing nearby rush to pour the milk if its convenient. All these things are possible even in rush hour! Its easy to work fast if we're working together people! Even if you think you have another order to make, some little actions are doable while you're rushing around and not eat up time. Contrary to how slow it may seem to make things, it really actually speeds up because once the milkshake is done, someone will be say, helping you cut banana wheels and someone else tending to the next customer! Its all easy! Its all fast! And the best part is the satisfaction both with your own performance and the warm feeling you get when everything clicks! Thats what working at Ben and Jerry's is about! If not theres NOTHING special about being a scoopy.

Why are girls always wanting to be a scoopy? Because its fun! FUN! FUN! Working hard looks fun! Thats whats special! Don't let RC be another politically charged workplace like everywhere else! Sort out the problems! If you get told off, don't take it to heart, don't carry anger overnight because at work, we're all here to enjoy ourselves. Really! I know all the older girls and they are not one to carry anger overnight.

And the older girls, its time we stop being a little too petty and let the bad performance of yesterday go. (: Give the new girls the RC experience, make them try it for a day. Things will be different then. Things will be like my Friday. It felt great, it made me feel accomplished and happy to be working and making things work as a team with Shiwei and Shuying. Thats what all the girls should be experiencing.

The sweet should overpower the bitter and the bitter should only give it an enhanced flavour.

I can't believe I would never have been a part of RC if it wasn't for a little twist of fate. (: I'm so glad that whatever happened in my life happened. Even if it made me feel bad and cry and disappointed me. 'Tis not a good closing, but a great day.

Met loadsa happy customers who made me feel like even though my eye hurt, my back ached and my head spun, working was worth it. Also Sining was great! (And Edmund helped out quite a lot too.)

TK's mom's apple pies are out for sale at $3.20 a slice! Looks really good! We sold a slice today! Had to force myself not to buy it! Really looks so... not like something homemade! It looks that good.

Not so good closing because money was missing again. Damn. That made me very very frustrated because even after doing every single thing that I must regarding money, counting recounting and making sure throughout the day, at the end of it there was still money missing. I felt like all that hard work of being careful just got thrown out the window! :C Was the pits.

But oh well. :(

hey people. i've decided to go back to the basics for everyone. it's frustrating when the things just don't get done or go smoothly. let's not elaborate why. it makes me feel old, but i'm going to. muahahah~~ getting the things done during your shifts prevents more things from being added onto other people's tasks. it's a vicious cycle when things don't get done.

anyway.....

opening
prepare things for operations
- bank in money
- reserve coins or collect coins if needed (the money in the safe must be counted on days when there are coins exchanges with the bank and also on sundays.)
- change and top up bulks AND update the dipcases and freezer
- arrange the bulks at the dipcases according to their designated spaces, with the flavour names the centre PLS!
- bake cookies or brownies if needed
- bake sufficient waffles for the day and wash it too
- sanitise tables

closing
clear up the store for tomorrow's people
- wash belgium waffle machine
- wash coffee machine, collars, long metal piece, and anything else washable
- change the hot fudge machine water and caramel water on alternate days, starting from wed
- sweep and mop the floor

MONEY HANDLING SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT

Every now and then BAAAAAAD (bad to the bone) stuff happens in store and that is... MONEY PROBLEM. Here are some money handling safety tips to minimize our burdens. We come to work! Not pay money to not eat ice cream! :( Don't lose unnecessary money! And here are some ways to prevent it. (Quite obviously because its happened before and its painful to pay! Especially to the poor girls who are on duty and who did not expect such a thing to happen; SHORT OF MONEY!)

PLEASE READ NOW!

STEP ONE: Even if its really rush time, do not kan cheong. Don't go like ah, faster faster faster. Look carefully at the things you're pressing, and ALWAYS double check order with customer! Must MUST MUST repeat his order before announcing the total and going with the payment. This is to prevent cashing in extra! Also its good to confirm the order with the customer as he may change his mind etc. Anyway we can't argue even if he change his/her mind, best is to just check and double check!

STEP TWO: Safe password, don't let everyone know I guess I'm guilty of this! Please don't tell everyone the safe password. Its for confidentiality sake. Now whoever knows it, knows it. Those who don't. Don't. The safe is not fun anyway!

STEP THREE: Remember to put back into safe as much as you take out. THE SAFE HAS TO HAVE A SET AMOUNT IN IT EVERYDAY. IT HAS TO BE THERE. ANY SHORTAGE AND EVERYONES IN BIG DOO DOO! People who are changing money, please please please ALWAYS remember to replace from POS back into safe whatever coins you change or notes. Don't forget! Do immediately and do it yourself! If you are the one to take it out, put it back in yourself! Even if its more convenient to ask someone to help you! At least taht way you remember for sure you put it back in!

STEP FOUR: Make sure the safe password area is covered or blocked from view when keying in. Don't let anyone see. Cover the area with your other hand, or block it as you key in.

STEP FIVE: Count money carefully. Make sure that notes are single pieces, no folding whatever, when you put in or take out! There have been cases when customers fold notes to make it look like double so you will give them change or whatever. Don't be fooled. Make sure all notes are single pieces when counting.

STEP SIX: Don't be fooled by sly people. Some customers will pretend that you didn't give them their change when you already have. Please be alert! This one have no helpline, you have to make sure that you read out the customers payment, when taking the money be alert what note/coins it is and then while you pass the change confirm the change amount. If they insist that they shound have more change and its a great diff (e.g. he said he gave you 50 when he only gave you 10 whatever you know!) insist on what you know YOU saw. If he continue to make a fuss, ask the other girls. In this case most probably trying to swindle us. Gotta call for help. Haha.

STEP SEVEN: Do not change large amounts of money. Some people are out to con us. We are firstly not toilet signs and we are also not money changes. If they want to change a large amount of money. Forget it. Direct them to the money changer and bank. Its too risky to change money! Don't know what tricks some people are up to!

All in all, just be extra careful whenever its about money! And as a good precaution, everytime someone is changing coins, on that day, please tally if there is the right amount of money in the safe. Play safe lah! (:

LESSONS LEARNT!

Hello everyone! :D

I learnt some stuff this past month that I'd like to share! In case you meet your very own disasterific customer service problem.

When a customer is displeased with the quality of the product (e.g. the waffle soggy whole batch also) first apologise and make it clear to him that we can make it up to him. Offer him an alternative. E.g. Since the waffle is not up to standard, ask if he would like maybe two new scoops of ice cream to make up for the bad quality. Apologise profusely again.

Assure him that its a one time off and we will look into the waffle. Just assure him. Make him happy or try to.

Make sure that he die die understands we WILL replace something and we are sincere in making it up to him.

Lesson learnt! From Carrie. Man... Under that situation I just panicked and was not clear enough in my explanation. I now know I should prevent misunderstandings by making myself EXTREMELY clear even when the customer can be very fierce etc.

PORRIDGE DAY FINALLY HAPPENED THANKS TO RESPONSIBLE LAVABLE mummie Lav!

Lav made porridge and we ate can food pork cubes and fried luncheon meat at the store! Wonderful home cooked food at last! Don't you just hate RC for being such an expensive place?

Mummie Lav and the softest homemade porridge! Chuan is so lucky!

The porridge has ginseng! Mummie Lav is the best!

Luncheon meat is the most delicious canned food ever invented. All hail luncheon meat! Fried luncheon meat= best!

We should do this home cooked food days more often! ( :

Dear Sir/Madam,

We would like to commend your team at Raffles City Mall for their splendid job of making our valentine's night fun, romantic and memorable.

We have been great fans of Ben and Jerry's delicious and funky ice cream flavours, in fact we frequent one of your branches at Great World City.
When I found about your creative Valentine's day package, I was actually looking for an idea on where to spend a simple, nice and memorable evening on Valentine's day. Then I saw the advertisement about the "B&J Love Concoction" package at the Ben & Jerry's branch at Raffles City Mall. It was quite an interesting advertisement that without hesitation I made an immediate purchase of the package, especially considering the cozy ambience of the new location, which we have yet to try.

When we reached Ben & Jerry's at about 8pm on the Valentine's day, your staffs greeted and served our order with genuine fun and friendly manner.
We chose the Sundae as the option, and as always, we enjoyed the fantastic Ice Cream flavours (we each picked our favourites), and to top it off, the location and ambience was romantic, relaxing and at the same time elegant. We couldn't help but noticed the brilliant effort your staffs there have made, to sprinkle the sides of the fountain with heart shaped paper cuts, which gave the place a cute and funky, yet romantic feeling.

As one of your staff requested to take our picture, we didn't really have any clue so as to what it was for. After spending 2 hours there (it sure was a conducive place to hang out) and as it was getting late, we decided to make a move. And just as we were about to leave, your staff came and brought us the final souvenir from Ben & Jerry's, and we were delightedly surprised by the souvenirs, especially the framed photograph (from the picture taken earlier) and the personalized pins. We truly appreciate the effort the staff there must have made to rush the photo to be printed, so that we could have a memorable souvenir of the memorable night.

To sum it up, the whole package was a simple and down to the earth, yet brilliantly creative idea. During the whole time of our stay at the Ben & Jerry's Raffles City Mall branch, the staffs there were fun and friendly, yet not negligence to politeness and great service.

We could definitely see what your e-mail address is all about. It's not just about fantastic tasting ice cream, but also fun and friendly ambience, great service, and creative ideas. Ben & Jerry rocks!

Subject: BEN & JERRY'S - RAFFLES CITY

Hello

On the evening of 25th November 2006, I was at the above outlet with my son and daughter. My son had saved up for a week so that he can have a treat of Ben & Jerry's Phish Food.

After we got our ice creams, we proceeded to our seats. In his enthusiastic dig into the cup, it skidded and landed on the floor. I need not tell you what it feels like to have the long awaited ice-cream that he saved for a week land on the floor; without even a lick of it. Of course, he was on the verge of tears and afraid when he told the young lady at the counter that he messed up the floor and hope to get it cleaned up before someone slipped on it.

He was not told of, he was not even shown any annoyance but with a big sympathetic smile, he was told that it was all right. The other young lady who proceeded to clean up with a mop also kept assuring him that "It's OK and not to worry". The biggest "WOW" factor was when I ordered an extra scoop for him. The cheery lady, after whispering to the Manager, gave him a FREE scoop - "IT'S OUR POLICY". Oh Wow! These words do not usually portend good news. Yet this was so differentand heart-warming.

You guys are really from the Happy People Company and you make people happy too.

Once again, my belated and heartfelt "Thank you" to you and the three wonderful ladies. They made my son so happy that there is still kindness in this impatient and unforgiving world. By the way, since then, he only eats ice cream from Ben & Jerry's, because "The people there are very nice, you know...". Haagen Daz does not even hold a glimmer next to you guys.

it's my first post my man! im just here to say something really lame and sweet. :D a group of 6 guys bought a pint today. they joined the tables. but it's ok. cos they shifted it back! pushed the stools in and even cleared the tables!! :D they're so incredibly sweet and the guy in the orange polo's kinda hot. that's all for now! till next time... take care my man!

If you're working don't worry. You can karang kabo with Carrie. She's working too on 31st. Then can go down together. Basically I think its just chilling out for those who don't want to spend the dawning moments of 2007 in bed or sleeping or eating instant noodles at home. Yep!
